| What we stand for... | |||||
| It is the aim and
purpose of the Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation to preserve and strengthen
traditional Judaism, the basic principals of which have been sanctified
by the usage of the ages in Halachah (Torah Law.) It shall, under its banner,
strive for the maintenance of Jewish tradition in its historic continuity.
It shall not, under any circumstances, sever ties with the Jewish spirit
of the past, but it shall in every way possible, take cognizance of the
spirit of the present. Therefore, it shall aim to present and interpret the lofty and noble ideas and ideals of Judaism in such a meaningful form and dignified manner as to imbue the young, adolescent, and the old with the true and genuine spirit and understanding of the glorious nobility and ethical truths of Judaism. |

| Established in
1958 as a Traditional Synagogue, LJC offers its members two services. A
mechitza-separate seating minyon meets every day of the year, including
Shabbos and Holy Days, and another service, Traditional in form, with mixed
seating, takes place in the Sanctuary. The Congregation has undergone extensive
renovation, with beautiful and original stained glass windows designed by
Chicago Artist Enid Silverman in the Beth Midrash, and a new Bimah and Aron
Hakodesh designed by our congregant, Michael
Gore, and constructed by local craftsmen. |
|||||
| The beauty of the newly added designs are both awesome and inspiring to all who participate in prayer. After both services, all the congregants share the Kiddush and celebrate every Shabbos and special occasions as a "Family all together." | |||||

| A Few Words from our President... March, 2008 |

| At last, Purim is getting close. This always signals the beginning of better weather and, this year, also the beginning of an event-filled spring, summer, and fall. You will find out more information about the various planned events in the Bulletin, but I would like to mention some of them here to pique your interest. First, the Fortune 50th Game will be taking place. Tickets are available now, with the first drawing to take place during the Purim Seudah. Each ticket costs $50 and can lead to multiple $100 prizes. Two drawings will take place each week. You will enjoy the suspense each week of seeing whether you won! Second, reserve the last weekend in May for the first major events of our 50th Anniversay celebration. We are planning a Shabbat Dinner featuring a special program. Shabbat services will also feature special programming. On Sunday, June 1st, there will be a concert featuring Kol Sasson, preceded by a cocktail party. This will be a very special weekend. In addition, we are planning a special ad book for our 50th year. Finally, there will be a special event, still in the planning stages, taking place on September 14h to honor and celebrate our congregation. These events are in addition to our Recollections program which takes place on Shabbat mornings, and a project to assemble and display various memorabilia. If you have old pictures or items that may be of interest to congregants, contact Debby Goodman or Dr. Gary Auslander. As you can see, this will be an event-filled year. We need your support and participation to make these events a success. Please, volunteer your assistance by contacting the office. |
